In May, we launched a new project AI-WARN, under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
The AI-WARN project is focused on developing a holistic Early Warning System (EWS) for climate-induced hazards, including geo-instabilities in mountainous areas (Dubrovnik) and urban flooding in lowland regions (Brussels).
By combining Earth Observation, UAVs, IoT sensors, and AI-driven analytics, the system will support emergency responders and decision-makers in taking timely, evidence-based actions.
The project also places strong emphasis on community engagement through awareness-raising and crowdsourcing, thereby improving preparedness and the effectiveness of disaster response.
Through case studies in Dubrovnik and Brussels, local knowledge and experience will be integrated into region-specific solutions aligned with existing IT platforms and operational procedures.
The project partners are the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb, Zentrix Lab, the City of Brussels, and the City of Dubrovnik.
