Infra Plan at the First AI-WARN Consortium Meeting in Dubrovnik

Earlier in September, the AI-WARN team from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb visited Dubrovnik to assess the pilot area and identify suitable locations for sensor deployment. Five sites were inspected, focusing on retaining walls and slopes exposed to rockfall hazards. The field assessment supported the selection of sensor locations and the establishment of the local monitoring network for the project’s early warning system.

At the end of September, Dubrovnik hosted the 1st AI-WARN Consortium Meeting, bringing project partners together to discuss progress and next steps for the two pilot areas, Dubrovnik and Brussels.

For the Dubrovnik pilot, discussions focused on bringing together monitoring, spatial and other available data to better understand rockfall hazards and the behaviour of retaining walls. For Brussels, the focus was on available data and requirements for better understanding and anticipating urban flooding.

The Infra Plan team presented the datasets prepared for the Dubrovnik pilot and the data integration platform. Discussions covered how different datasets can be used, their limitations and how they can support the analysis in each pilot area. The partners also visited one of the sensor locations to see the monitoring setup in place.

With the sensors installed and operational and the datasets prepared, the Dubrovnik pilot is now moving from the initial field assessment towards active monitoring and data integration, an important step in developing and testing the AI-WARN early warning system under real-world conditions.
