CLARION

Climate Resilient Port Infrastructure

Project title: Climate Resilient Port Infrastructure

Webisite Project: projectclarion.eu

Project duration:  01/05/2024 – 30/04/2028

Funding:   EU Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme; call: HORIZON-CL5-2023-D6-01-09; GA No. 101147041

The CLARION Project, funded by the Horizon Europe Programme, aims to make European ports more resilient, sustainable, and secure in the face of climate change. The project focuses on strengthening port infrastructure and transport networks (both land and water) to handle disruptions caused by climate or human activities.

This approach will help ports respond better to crises that could disrupt operations, cause financial losses, or

interrupt services. CLARION also works to improve the safety and security of port access and activities, while reducing the environmental impact of construction, maintenance, operation, and decommissioning of port infrastructure.

Bringing together 20 partners from 11 European countries, CLARION will develop new solutions to reduce climate

impacts on ports. These solutions will be tested through 10 pilot demonstrations to ensure they can be easily applied at other ports in Europe.

Through this work, CLARION supports Europe’s climate goals, including the EU’s Adaptation Strategy and the European Green Deal, with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Our Tasks:

  • Develop and establish CLARION’s evaluation methodology, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPI) framework and setting baseline metrics
  • Assess the impact of proposed measures along 10 pilot projects across Europe
  • Develop strategies minimising capacity loss of port and hinterland infrastructures during extreme climate events
