Project duration07/2024 – 06/2027
FundingEU Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme; GA No.  101147004

Funded by the European Union

iDriving, funded by the Horizon Europe Programme, focuses on enhancing road safety and traffic management on urban and secondary roads across Europe. By integrating AI, digital twins, and real-time monitoring, the project develops intelligent, data-driven solutions for detecting hazards, optimizing maintenance, and improving vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.

Through a collaborative effort of 17 partners from 9 EU and 1 non-EU country, iDriving aims to set new safety standards, reduce accidents, and promote sustainable mobility. The project works closely with municipalities and policy-makers to ensure that its solutions address real urban challenges and support safer, smarter, and more resilient transport networks.

Our tasks:

  • Development of a Safety Criteria Catalogue (SCC) for urban and secondary roads. The catalogue will build on EU road safety indicators and incorporate feedback from end-users to adapt them to real conditions.
  • Developing a platform evaluation methodology assessing V2I communication, sensor performance, data accuracy, and user experience to ensure the system improves road safety.
  • Testing real-time road monitoring systems in Karlovac (Croatia) and Thessaloniki (Greece) using UAVs, sensors, and AI analytics to detect hazards like potholes, obstructions, and severe weather.
  • With the City of Thessaloniki, Use Case #2 showcases iDriving’s real-time monitoring and early hazard detection to improve infrastructure maintenance and road safety on urban and secondary roads.
